Dampness is a condition which the body retains excessive amount of fluids in the tissues. It is usually caused by weakness in the spleen system. Symptoms include swelling of joints, weight gain, lack of energy, bruising easily, and vericose veins. When combined with heat or coldness, it will result in joint pain. In North America, the diet usually includes a large amount of cold food and drinks. This diet over time seriously weakens the spleen system, and result in increasing dampness in the body. Dampness can also result from environmental factors. Someone living or working in a damp environment will likely have dampness in their bodies For example, dairy farmers have a high probability of arthritis. Likewise, someone living in a damp basement will get joint pain, headache or sinus problems.
