Hemorrhoids are structures of blood vessels that assisst in the passage of stool in the anal canal.  When they become swollen, they can cause severe pain and bleeding.  It is the painful swollen type that most people refer to as hemorrhoids.  Interal hemorrhoids are less painful but cause bleeding.  External ones are more painful and can be detected just outside of the anus.  They can result in extreme pain and discomfort, to the point where no position is comfortable while sleeping or sitting down.

From a Chinese medicine perspective, hemorrhoids are caused by abnormal dietary habits.  These habits may include excessive consumption of hot spicy food, deep fried food, alcohol and other irritating food, or over indulgence of sex, or overly exhausting the body.  These habits usually result in increasingly severe constipations, resulting in inbalance of ying and yang.  Eventually, hemorrhoids result.  Hemorrhoids can also be brought on by pregnancy because of the pressure of the embryo.

Treatments for hemorrhoids start with restoring the balance of yin and yang by reducing heat, clearing blood stasis, inflamation and swelling.  Our experience is that the majority of patents find relief even with a few sessions, and by following the deitary adjustments, the patients completely reverse the symptoms and conditions.
