Chinese herbology is the practice of TCM using Chinese medicinal herbs. It is traditionally the most important modality of TCM, and still is the case in China and Asia. Outside of Asia, including Canada and the USA, acupuncture has become the predominant modality.  It is because of its efficacy and speed, but more importantly to most patients, the absence of extra work to prepare the herbs and having to endure the unpleasant taste and odour.  In reality, however, Chinese herbs can enhance and speed up the rate of recovery when used in conjuction with acupuncture.

Chinese herbs are primarily made from plants, but also from other sources such as animals and minerals. They are used for their medicinal properties to treat health conditions. We do not prescribe herbs from any endangered species.

As with other modalities of TCM, Chinese herbs are prescribed by the practitioner based on the careful assessment of the patient’s current yin/yang states in the organ systems. This is the most critical difference between an amateur and professional herbalist. Each prescription is custom designed for condition of the patient at the time of the assessment.  The condition of the body changes so the rescription must be adjusted to reflect these changes.
